Brunch drinks uncovered: Margarita

By on June 2, 2011

What is really in your brunch drink?

Summer makes me crave a nice cold summery drink. With that said, what is one of my favorite summer drinks? A margarita! What makes a margarita special? You can make one any way you like – on the rocks, frozen, with or without salt, and you can choose amongst numerous flavors to add a little something to your sweet and sour drink. There is something about margaritas that make people happy 🙂

Margarita recipe

1 lime, cut into 6 wedges
Coarse salt
Ice cubes
1 3/4 cups tequila
1/4 cup Cointreau
1/4 cup Grand Marnier
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
2 to 4 tablespoons lime simple syrup

This recipe and more found on http://www.marthastewart.com/

History: There are so many stories on how the margarita was originated. Some believe the drink was discovered in 1948 by Margarita Sames during her trip to Acapulco. Another tale is that the drink was created in Mexico sometime in the 1930s to impress a lady with the name “Margarita.” For argument’s sake I’ll say the margarita was invented in Mexico by somebody who knew what he/she was doing. ¡Salud!
